Raising the Standard

At Bardstown Bourbon Company, every whiskey we create is built on a foundation of innovation, collaboration, and exploration. We’re honored to share that Distillery Reserve Hokkaido Mizunara Oak Finish has been recognized as Best Bourbon by both Rolling Stone and Esquire, reaffirming the dedication and boundary-pushing approach that define our team.

Rolling Stone called the release “our favorite bourbon of the year … sweet and complex with just a hint of spice, leaving behind a velvety, lasting finish.”

Esquire praised it as “one of the best examples” of a Mizunara-oak-finished whiskey.

This recognition captures what drives us every day: a relentless pursuit of excellence and a willingness to explore what bourbon can become. Working with Mizunara oak wasn’t about novelty, it was a decision to blend tradition with innovation, bringing Japanese craftsmanship into conversation with Kentucky heritage.

We’re excited to keep pushing the boundaries with our Distillery Reserve Series, and can’t wait to share our final release of the year!
